Electron Spin Resonance of Gd^<3+> and Eu^<2+> in KTaO_3

Single crystals of KTa0_3 doped with gadolinium-and europium-ions have been investigated by electron spin resonance at X-band. The spectra of these ions are described by a cubic spin Hamiltonian. The parameters for Gd^<3+> ion at 4.2°K are g=1.990±0.002, b_<40>=(-8.14±O.27)×1O^<-4>cm^<-1>, b_<60>=(+0.47±0.3)×10^<-4>cm^<-1>. Those for Eu^<2+> ion at 77°K are g=1.990±0.002, |b_<40>|=(16±2)×10^<-4>cm^<-1>, |b_<60>|=(1.2±O.6)×1O^<-4>cm^<-1>, b_<40> and b_<60> being of the same sign, |A^<151>|=(36±1)×1O^<-4>cm^<-1> and |A^<153>|=(16±1)×lO^<-4>cm^<-1>. The splitting parameters are found to vary only slightly between 77°K and 1.5°K. Brief discussions on the above results are given.
