不登校についての一考察 : ラベリングに視点をあてて

In recent years, although the term, non-attendance, is broadly recognized and often used in the society, the concept and the backgrounds of its phenomenon are not unified. As a result, there are a variety of treatments or methods to deal with it. In this modern society, the job career and an economical status are determined depending on an academic background. From such a reason, the competition between students for the examination is raging. If a student could not enter a well-known or established school, he is labeled as a dropped off. After he entered the school, there are other severe trials where if he could not chive good records, he may be not respected from the people around him including classmates, teachers and families. This may let the student be lethargy. The recent tendencies in the society, such as weak communicative relations and infrequency of communications, are also makes serious difficulties for children to establish and understand human relations with others since the people usually understands human relations through the process of communication. When the non-attendant children lose the place (e.g. school) where they encounter people other than families, it may more difficult for them to experience the process of communications. In this study, the author tried to specify the points which an assistant to a so-called non-attendant child should take into consideration. The child must feel isolation from society, even from families, when he/she is labeled as a non-attendant, a refuser or a non-adapted. The tide of labeling may sometimes bring serious damage to the non-attendant child and may cause PTSD. The author also suggests that the amendment to the regulations of the educational system so as to afford flexibilities is one possibility. For Instance, if they are modified to accept setting up other facilities for such children, they are not necessarily labeled as a non-attendant and at the same time, they can obtain the place to experience the human relations.
