We study the possible existence of the massless Lorentz gauge field in the linear approximation under the conditions α+2a/3=β-2a/3=γ+3a/2=0. It is found that there are two massless modes of the Lorentz gauge field propagating with positive energy in vacuum. These two massless modes have helicity-parity 1^+ and 1^-, respectively, and cannot coexist. The massless mode with helicity-parity 1^+ is the most interesting, because the axial-vector component of the Lorentz gauge field interacts with Dirac fields directly.
