We survey the fundamental processes in star formation. First we investigate the criteria for dynamical contraction and fragmentation of the clouds in various configurations. We then investigate the contraction and fragmentation of magnetic clouds due to plasma drift. We survey the recent investigations on the quasistatic and dynamical contraction of magnetic clouds. We finally review the magnetic braking of the cloud rotation.
