We review the effects of magnetic fields on star formation such as the criteria for the contraction and fragmentation of magnetized clouds, the processes and the time-scale of the dissipation of magnetic fields due to the plasma drift (ambipolar diffusion) and the Ohmic dissipation, and transport of the angular momentum of the cloud to the surrounding medium.
