The polarization of Λ hyperons produced by the quasifree ^<12>C(π^+, K^+) reaction is calculated. The calculation is based on the polarization of the elementary π^++n→K^++Λ reaction. The calculation almost reproduces the polarization measured recently which demonstrates that spin characteristic of the elementary reaction is not modified in a nuclear medium. There is small but definite discrepancy between the calculation and the measurement which indicates the existence of further reaction mechanism in the quasifree process.
