Formation and Fragmentation of Double-Λ Compound Nucleus : Nuclear Physics

The idea of a double-Λ compound nucleus is proposed to explain the production process of double-Λ hypernuclei in Ξ^- absorption. The formation probabilities of single-Λ and double-Λ compound nuclei are calculated on the basis of the nuclear matter assumption and the local density approximation. The decay probabilities from a double-Λ compound nucleus to various fragments are evaluated in a statistical treatment. Calculated values are compared with the results of the KEK E-176 experiment.
