Various nonlinear σ models on symmetric spaces are investigated in zero and one dimensional lattice systems. In the large N limit of such matrix models, the third order phase transitions are obtained for the compact case. Noncompact case has no third order transition in this limit. The renormalization group β-functions for one dimensional cases are evaluated.
