First Order Melting Transition in the Incommensurate Phase

The two-dimansional sine-Gordon system which contains the misfit parameter μ is small, the wave number δ_0 which characterizes the incommensurate (IC) phase becomes just the half of μ and the IC-phase is always realized. There is no commensurate-incommensurate (C-IC) phase transition which is expected to occur at T=0. At proper value of μ the first order transition occurs, where δ_0 jumps from one incommensurate value to another. It is shown that this transition is the melting transition in the IC-Phase by calculating the correlation function.
