Synthesis of Fe-Group Elements by the Rapid Nuclear Process

The rates of (p, γ), (γ, p), (α, γ) (γ, α) and (p, α) reactions at temperature (0.5~2.0)×10^9°K are calculated for nuclei in the range A=40~60 and it is shown that the α-particle reactions can be neglected for temperature below 2×10^9°K unless the number ratio of α-particles to protons is larger than 10^7. Using the above results, it is shown that Fe-group elements are synthesized by the proton capturing process under the stellar conditions of supernova explosion. As the results of calculation, it is found that the observed relative abundances of Fe-group elements lighter than A=56 may be explained as the final results of the proton capturing process at temperature (1.0~1.2)×10^9°K in proton density 1 g cm^<-3> during the time of (7~30)×10^2 sec or at temperature (1.0~1.5)×10^9°K in proton density 10 g cm^<-3> during the time of (2~40)×10 sec.
