Three-Pion Decays of η and K and the Final State Interactions

The three-pion decays of the η and the K mesons are simultaneously investigated in the light of new data and in terms of the conventional pion pole model. The final state interactions are assumed to be dominated by the well-established ρ meson. It is found that one can obtain a surprisingly good agreement with all the recent data of the η and the K-meson decay spectra and the branching ratios including Γ(η→3π^0)/Γ(η→π^+π^-π^0) if we put λ=-0.19, where λ is the coupling constant of the four-pion interaction and where λ is the only parameter adjusted to fit these quantities. A discussion is also made about the magnitude of the η→π and the K→π transitions in relation to the absolute decay rates.
