The modifications of the residual interaction between two nucleons due to the effects of their interactions with the core part of the nucleus are calculated to the second order in this interaction, and with adiabatic approximation. The modifications amount from several % to even 60% depending strongly on the choice of parameters and also their multipolarity, isotopic spin and spin characters. The connection with the phenomenological P_2-force is briefly discussed.
