Immuunohistochemical localization of non-collagenous bone matrix proteins osteopontin and osteocalcin was investigated using the heterotopic bone tissue induced by partially purified BMP in mice. The positive reactions were detected in various proliferated chondro-osteogenetic cells and their matrices during the process of the bone formation. The reaction patterns were similar to that of the physiological osteogenesis. There is, however, a slight difference of the manifestations of the positive reactions between the BMP-induced heterotopic ossification and normal one. These results may suggest that the heterotopicosteogenesis slightly differs from physiological one.
