The expression of TGF-E〓1 mRNA was investigated using the early stage of BMP-induced heterotopic osteogenesis inthe femoral muscle pouches of mice. DIG labeled RNA probe was prepared with an engineered gene of TGF-〓1 BBG-24 (BBL), and then in situ hybridization was performed. The gene expression was found only in the some chondrocytes. This expression pattern was different from the normal chondrocytes at the epiphyseal cartilage tissue.
