This paper is a study of the TOEIC preparation course within the general English course at Aomori Public College. The study evaluates the program based upon teaching strategies utilized by two instructors X and Y. Results of comparison in strategies based on score gains between the two instructors indicated specific focus on vocabulary building and grammar development may have a strong influence in gaining scores. The two instructors' classes gained in reading scores, but the listening increases were disappointing. This indicated that listening is an area for improvement within the preparation class. Since the results are based upon a relatively small sample and comparison of incoming and outgoing scores for only fall semester were analyzed, the findings must be looked upon with caution. However, it is the contention of the authors that the results should prove helpful as an aid to improving the TOEIC preparation course at Aomori Public College.
