The effects of stirring on steelmaking reactions were studied by using 150 kV∧ Heroult furnace with the inductive stirrer, and obtained the following results : 1) Homogenizing action of the stirrer on concentration and temperature was recognized though the obvious motion of the melt was scarcely observed. 2) The rate of desulphurization was found to be somewhat greater in stirred melts than that without stirring, but effects on the decarburization, dephosphorization and deoxidation were found not considerable. 3) When the Luppe was charged as raw material, not only dephosphorization was promoted before clear melt and in oxidizing period, but also the rate of desulphurization in refining period was increased from 0.00045%S/min without stirring to 0.00075%S/min with stirring.
