In this study, three kinds of experiment were carried out about the problem of regeneration, using leaf and shoot cuttings of Lycopersicum esculentum, whose mother plants were cultivated respectively under two different light conditions, that is sunny and shady. The subjects of these three expertments are as follws : Exp. 1. On the effects on regeneration of spraying sucrose or urea solution over the leaf surface. Exp. 2. On the effects on regenreation of basal soaking in NAA (Na-salt) solutions of different concentration. Exp. 3. On the effects on regeneration of combining those two kinds of tre atment mentioned in exp. 1 and 2. 1) If leaf cuttings were not treated with NAA, there could be observed only a small number of roots at some of sunny materials. But, to the contrary, when treated with NAA, leaf cuttings rooted well ; and the shady materials rooted sooner than the sunny ones. 2) Shoot cuttings rooted sooner than leaf cuttings; and the shady materials rooted sooner than the sunny materials. Shoot cuttings, both kinds of materials, rooted most rapidly in the case of treatment with no NAA solutions. And both of these materials, they were delayed to root a little when sprayed with urea solution, as compared with the case that they were sprayed with sucrose solution. 3) Both of leaf and shoot cuttings of sunny materials, the concentration of NAA treatment at which the cuttings sprayed with urea solutions rooted most abundantly was higher than that of the cuttings sprayed with sucrose solution. But, to the contrary, at shady materials, the optimum concentration of NAA treatment was higher when the cuttings were sprayed with sucrose solution, as compared with the case of urea solution. 4) Both of sunny and shady materials, the root number of leaf cuttings was greater when sprayed with urea solution, while that of shoot cuttings was greater when sprayed with sucrose solution. 5) Both of leaf and shoot cuttings, the regenerating values of shady meterials were greater than those of sunny materials. 6) It could not find much difference of regenerating value between sucrose and urea groups of shoot cuttings of sunny materials; but at leaf cuttings, the similar value was greater in urea group. In the case of shady materials, the regenerating value was greater in sucrose group, both of leaf and shoot cuttings. In short, the spray of urea solution was the most effective at sunny materials, as well as the spray of sucrose solution at shady materials. Consequently it seems that the maximum value of regeneration of cuttings exists where the quantity of growth substances balances best with the quantity of constructive substances. As a whole, the maximum value of regeneration is occupied by the shoot cuttings of shady materials.
