An increased volume of medical and nursing information and increased needs from the people for POS (patient oriented system) of medical and nursing care over the past 50 years have forced to innovate medical and nursing education. It is impossible to cram all the necessary knowledge by didactic lectures during the limited periods of medical and nursing colleges. Physicians and nurses must acauire problem solving skills and interviewing skills as well as basic knowledge and manual operational skills. The organ-system based integrated curriculum developed by Case Western Reserve University in U. S. A. and the problem-based experiential self-learning strategy (tutorial) developed by MacMaster University in Canada gave a certain impact to the medical and nursing education in Japan. In Aichi Medical University, the so-called hybrid curriculum combining the traditional discipline based lectures and integrated lectures, and the pre-case study by a tutorial method have been practiced in the schoolof medicine, and tutorials with workshops, each to be completed within one session, and other teaching strategies effectively utilizing the brain mechanisms for learning have been tried in the college of nursing. In addition, simultaneous active learning of students of two far apart medical schools by using automatic drills and response analyzers through telecommunication was tried and successful.
