Principle, technical problem and electronic circuit of feedback control system for high current PIG discharge are treated. In the PIG discharge with an electron bombarded hot cathode, the discharge current is kept constant by controlling the cathode temperature by means of the bombardment power control. Important parameters of the regulation of cathode temperature are the back heating on cathode due to ion current of a plasma and on the filament by a radiation of high temperature cathode. The circuit with an available open loop gain, 10^2,is designed to control discharge current. The characteristics of the control system is examined and experimental results for the response time and the time constant of every part in the system are summarized for discharge parameters. A simple analysis for the stability of the system is done by considering the time constant of elementary circuits and the open loop gain of the system. The observed stability of the system is quite satisfactory with a small drift less than 6×10^<-3>/hour. In this system the adjustment of discharge voltage or current can easily be made by a selector switch with a great convenience in practical operation. Some physical problems of hot cathode discharge are also discussed.
