In the tropical area, heavy rainfall frequently occurs. Consequently, for the wireless communication, the attenuation of radio waves due to the rainfall is a problem. The investigations of the attenuation due to rainfall go slow, because the features of the rainfall are not clear. Conventional rain gauges of such as tipping bucket type take with large errors for heavy rains, and furthermore, instantaneous values are not available. In order to get rid of these difficulties, a new rain gauge is developed with the use of a special flow sensor. This is found a quite effective one for very heavy rains and the range of measurements covering from 1.5mm/h to 320mm/h has been achieved within the error of 1%. By the use of this new type rain guage, the analysis of the instantaneous intensity of rainfall has become possible.
