The purpose of this paper is to consider the possibility of the lifelong learning by reading the Great Books together with the children and parents. For this purpose we try to research the philosophy of the Great Books Seminar, which has established and fostered by Mortimer J. Adler in 20th Century. After the overview of this works, including the Family Participation Plan of the Great Books and his Paideia Project in 1980s, a radical reform of schooling in the United States under such idea as "the best education for the best is the best education for all", we try to make point the essence of the theory and practice of the Great Books Seminar. It suggests that the Great Books Seminar is effective to promote the liberal education for all, including the children, because of the consideration the importance of the relationship between the Great Books and the Great Ideas. We are supposed to come to the conclusion that the theory and methodology of the Great Books Seminar is important for motivating the lifelong learning in our matured society.
