The magnetic properties reflected in a macroscopic hysteresis loop are dominated by both spin and orbital moments. In this study, spin-specific magnetic hysteresis (SSMH) and orbital-specific magnetic hysteresis (OSMH) loops were obtained for amorphous Tb43Co57 film by using a combination of Compton scattering and superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) measurements. The shape of SSMH was found to be different from the shape of OSMH, and it was found that the contribution to SSMH from Co was different that from Tb. These results suggest that magnetic switching can be different among the spin moment, the orbital moment, and even the state of electrons.
