Dislocations and Thermal Conductivity of Gd3+y(Ga0.8Al0.2)5-yO12 Garnets

Single Crystals of Gd3(Ga0.8Al0.2)5O12 garnets with excess gadolinium ions have been grown using the Czochralski method. The reduction of the density of grown-in dislocations was attempted by means of the addition of excess gadolinium ions. This technique is effective to reduce the density of dislocations. The reduction of the dislocation density was confirmed by the thermal conductivity measurement.
