Vertical junction type organic photovoltaic cells having a pn junction formed perpendicularly to a light irradiated surface were fabricated. Short-circuit photocurrent density of 8.5 mA$\cdot$cm-2 and power conversion efficiency of 0.54% were observed under simulated solar illumination. The large photocurrent density is attributed to the light collection effect via the transparent vertical layer.
