Utilizing the photochemical phenomenon that hole transporting polysilane film is converted to an insulator by ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation, patterned emission from a single-layered organic electroluminescent (EL) device composed of hole transporting polysilane film with molecular dispersion of a laser dye and an electron transporting molecule was demonstrated as imaged using UV irradiation through a photomask.
