The photoelectrochemical behavior of <I>p</I>-type semiconducting <I>trans</I>-(CH)<I><SUB>x</SUB></I> film in the presence of <I>N</I>,<I>N</I>′-dimethyl-4,4′-bipyridinium as the solution species is described. The spectral response of the photocurrent shows a mismatch with the absorption spectrum, and the quantum yield (≈10<SUP>−3</SUP>) of the charge flow is extremely low. It is assumed that (CH)<I><SUB>x</SUB></I> film has a high trap density and that the lifetime of the photogenerated hole is limited by trapping and recombination in the space-charge region.
