p-π Electron Character Observed through the Anisotropy of ESR in Undoped (CH)_x

ESR measurements were done in stretched films of undoped c/.v-rich (CH). at Xband. The anisotropy was observed in linewidth and g value. Both quantities showedmaxima when the external field was parallel to the s1.retch direction of the film andshowed minima when the field was perpendicular to this direction. Those features arereasonably explained by the anisotropic property of the carbon p-rc orbital and stronglysuggest that the ESR center has its origin in the p-rc electron in undoped (CH)..
