The reaction of 3-bromo-β-ionone with sodium ethoxide afforded ethyl 4-(2,6,6-trimethyl-2-cyclohexenylidene)butyrate by a Favorskii-type rearrangement, accompanied by double-bond migration, while with sodium phenoxide or diethyl amine, substitution products were primarily obtained.
