5,10,15,20-Tetraphenylporphyrins (<B>Por</B>) with a styrenic double bond-bearing substituent attached at the pyrrole residue with an amide or ester spacer were synthesized starting with 3-substituted pyrroles. Free radical copolymerization of <B>ZnPor</B>, prepared from <B>Por</B>, with 1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone gave more favorable results than did <B>Por</B>.
