The reaction of 1,5-dithiacyclooctane 1-oxide (<B>2</B>) with thionyl chloride afforded the corresponding chlorosulfonium chloride as a stable salt and an evidence for the intermediary formation of the bis-sulfide dication with an equilibrium mixture of the chlorosulfonium salt was found. In contrast to <B>2</B>, 1,4-dithiacyclohexane 1-oxide (<B>6</B>) reacts with thionyl chloride like a simple sulfoxide.
