Heating <I>Se</I>-phenyl bicyclo[3.3.1]non-6-ene-3-(selenothioperoxy)carboxylate with AIBN gives 5-phenyl-seleno-3-thia-2-homoprotoadamantan-2-one which is unexpectedly converted to the vinyl selenide via the selenoxide by oxidation with hydrogen peroxide or <I>m</I>CPBA.
