The selenite radical anion, SeO<SUB>3</SUB><SUP>\divdot</SUP>, can be detected by ESR spectroscopy using water-soluble spin-traps, <I>N</I>-(4-pyridylmethylene)-<I>t</I>-butylamine <I>N</I>,<I>N</I>′-dioxide (POBN) and 3,5-dibromo-4-nitrosobenzenesulfonate (DBNBS), but selenate radical anion, SeO<SUB>4</SUB><SUP>\divdot</SUP>, cannot be trapped by POBN or DBNBS.
