A thallous compound of 3-(<I>p</I>-hydroxybenzylidene)-2,4-pentanedione was synthesized and its structure was determined by means of the infrared and proton magnetic resonance spectra. This compound was regarded as a thallous phenolate derivative; however, the effect of chelation by the 2,4-pentanedionate moiety due to a longrange anionotropy was observed. The acetyl proton exchange of the Tl(I) compound in D<SUB>2</SUB>O was observed by a PMR investigation. It was found that the methyl-proton exchange was inhibited by chelation.
