A structure analysis of a bromoacetate of hydroxypiperenone by the X-ray diffraction method.

The structure of a bromoacetate of hydroxypiperenone, C<SUB>24</SUB>H<SUB>31</SUB>O<SUB>7</SUB>Br, has been determined by the X-ray diffraction method. The compound crystallized in the space group P2<SUB>1</SUB> with <I>a</I>=8.296, <I>b</I>=13.247, <I>c</I>=11.400 Å, and β=102.8°. The structure was solved by the heavy-atom method and refined to <I>R</I>=0.075 for 1614 reflections. The present analysis has established that the five- and six-membered rings are fused in the <I>cis</I> fashion. The absolute configuration of the molecule has been determined by using the anomalous dispersion effect of the bromine atom for Cu <I>K</I>α radiation.
