The tautomeric constants, <I>K</I><SUB>t</SUB>, of several 4-pyridones were determined by measurement of p<I>K</I><SUB>a</SUB> values. For 2-substituted 5-methoxy-4-pyridones, the <I>K</I><SUB>t</SUB> values were correlated to the substituent constants σ, the equation log<I>k</I><SUB>t</SUB>=2.98+2.93σ<I><SUB>m</SUB></I>−6.18σ<I><SUB>o</SUB></I> being obtained.
