Follow-up study on the pectralis mayor muscle transfer for treatment of shoulder instability.

Eight men and fifteen women were reviewed at an average of fifty months after pectorals mayor muscle transfer for shoulder instability. Their ages at surgery ranged from fourteen to forty years with the average of twenty-one years. The results were evaluated according to our own criteria taking account of grade of shoulder pain, range of motion, disability on daily activities and the patients satisfaction for the operation.This operation has afforded relief or improvement in twenty-one cases (91%), but results were not satisfactory in two cases (9%). No case complained of any trouble during daily life. Satisfactory results were achieved in cases with anterior voluntary dislocation of the shoulder joint.
