The effect of long-term low-dose EHDP on the experimental osteoporosis induced by sciatic nerve dissection in rats have been investigated through the analysis of the mechannical property.1) The bone weight and the bone volume increased with doses over 0.1mg/kg/day of EHDP in a dose dependent manner. However there was no remarkable change in the snecific gravity regardless of the dose of EHDP.2) The breaking strength increased significantly with doses over 0.5mg/kg/day of EHDP. However no remarkable changes was observed in stress, probably because of the similtaneous increase of the cross section.3) These findings observed more markedly in the denervated limb than in the control limb.4) The breaking strength increased in linear fashion with doses of 0.1, 0.5, 1.0 2.0mg/kg/day of EHDP, but decreased slightly at a dose of 5mg/kg/day of EHDP. This finding appear to be related to the accumulation of non-mineralized osteoid at dose of 5mg/kg/day of EHDP.
