The present experiment was designed to study the effect of Ca antagonist Diltiazem (HERBESSER) on experimental hypervitaminosis D. Vitamin D3 was administered (600000U. I./kg) subcutaneously. Subcutaneously Calcium antagonist, diltiazem in dose of 100mg/kg, was injected every 12hr for 7 consecutive days after one single dose of Vit. D3. In bones of rats given Vit. D3 were observed sclerotic metaphysis and the formation of excessive osteoid tissue. Diltiazem neutralized the metaphyseal scleosis and reduced the excess osteoid tissue by overdose of vit D3. Ca antagonist revealed that intracellular Ca plays a key role in the action of Vitamin D3 on bone.
