The patient was a 26-year-old student who noticed pain in her left wrist two months before. Local examination showed only tenderness on the anatomical snaff box. Rentogenograms showed a small cyst with slight marginal sclerosis in the carpal scaphoid. Four months later she noticed a soft, smooth, elastic hard, lxlcm mass which could be felt on the volar side of the wrist and wanted to be operated on. A cyst without communication with the wrist joint was found on lateral side of the flex, carp. rad. tendon, extending into the carpal scaphoid through a small window. Extirpation of this cyst contained gelatinous material was done. After curettage of the sclerotic wall, cancellous bone was grafted. Postoperative course was uneventfull. The histological examination of the cyst showed that the lining of the cyst was absent and the wall was composed of collagen fiber. We considered that this case showed extraosseous growth of a intraosseous ganglion of the carpal scaphoid.
