Administration of EHDP in the prevention of postoperative recurrence of heterotopic ossification in spinal-cord injury patients.

EHDP was used for a clinical trial in three patients to study its effecfiveness in preventing the recurrence of mineralization after surgical treatment of heterotopic ossification.These patients, who had sustained injuries to the spinal cord followed by ankylosis of joints, had six surgical resection of heterotopic ossification. Rentgenograms showed that in the areas of resections done with the drug there was no sign of recurrence after discontinuation of it.There was no remarkable adverse effect of the drug.EHDP was useful in prevention of postoperative recurrence of heterotopic ossification in spinal cord injury patients.
