YM175 (Disodium dihydrogen (cycloheptylamino) methylene bisphosphonate monohydrate) is one of the new bisphosphonates which have a strong suppressive effect on bone resorption. In this study, the effects of YM175 were compared with those of HEBP and Cl2MBP in rats.YM175 had a strong suppression of bone resorption that was a thousand times stronger than HEBP and Cl2MBP, and the histological study suggested that the effect of YM175 on bone resorption was due to its direct effect on osteoclasts. YM175 did not have the disturbance of calcification as did HEBP.
