Return to Community of the Spinal Cord Injured Patients (Paraplegics)

Since the founding of the spinal injeries center in Iizuka, an early operative decompression, reduction and fusion have been used in the management of spinal injuries. In this paper, we reported a return to community of 101 cases of paraplegics with complete (67 cases) and incomplete lesions (34 cases). A 60 percents of 101 cases had returned to community. Almost all of them depended on a wheel-chair. There was a high percentage of return to community in adolescent workers, students and patients with a drivers licence. In this analysis, we found that it was most important in management of paraplegics to admit them to a specialized spinal cord injuries unit as soon as possible.
