Clinical results of adductor plasty for the ulnar nerve palsy.

In ulnar nerve palsy, the recovery of pinch grip is more preferable than the correction of the claw fingers. We have operated on the five cases with ulnar nerve palsy for the adductor plasty of the thumb. Out of 5 cases, 3 cases suffered from only the ulnar nerve palsy, 2 cases from the combined ulnar nerve palsy with the median nerve palsy. All the cases were engaged in business before surgery, therefore required the early returning to their business.We have mainly taken the procedure using EIP tendon for the adductor plasty, consequently almost good results have been acquired in cases with only the ulnar nerve palsy. On the contrary, in cases with the ulno-median nerve palsy, adductor plasty have given the worse opposition function. In such cases, a firm opponoplasty and the stabilization of the MP joint of the thumb must have been planned before an adductor plasty.
