Preoperative computer simulation for total knee arthroplasty, which is able to make an osteotomy as close as possible has been performed by the authors in Fukuoka University from 1987.However it was difficult to make an osteotomy at the same angle as simulation using the original instrument. A new instrument for total knee arthroplasty, the Yamamoto knee mark III is an improved one. This instrument, a valgus cutting plate, is used to cut the femoral distal end at the decided valgus angle by simulation and has two differential angles of 8 and 10 degrees. Using the new instrument, a closer osteotomy can be performed. Another instrument developed to cut the tibial plateau vertically against tibial axis. It is a extramedullary stay to support the tibial axis bar.By using this stay, a vertical osteotomy against tibial plateau can be done.
