Results of the Modified Chrisman-Snook Operation for Chronic Lateral Ligamental Instability of the Ankle.

Seventeen patients treated with the modified Chrisman-Snook procedure for chronic lateral ankle instability were assessed after a mean follow-up of 39 months.Subjective evaluation using Seligson's scale, objective evaluation of the ankle range of motion, stress roentgenogram, and the strength of ankle evertors, and functional activity grading using the Tegner score were performed.At follow-up examination, Seligson's scale was statistically improved, stability was the same as the un-injured side and the Tegner score was almost the same as the pre-injury activity level. The majority of our patients were satisfied with these results.Loss of inversion of more than 10 degrees and weakness of ankle evertor endurance power less than 80% of the un-injured side were noted in 8 patients, but there was little functional limitation. Long-term evaluation is necessary to know whether or not these problems improve.
