In this study, we evaluated the results of surgical treatment for acute Type III injuries of the acromioclavicular joint according to the classification proposed by Tossy and Allman. Thirteen cases were repaired by the, modified Weaver technique, 5 cases by the modified Phemister technique, and 2 cases by the Dewar technique or by the use of artificial ligaments.Of the twenty Type III injuries, evaluation was possible in only 18 cases. Excellent results were found in 15 cases and good results were found in 3 cases according to Kawabe's criteria.We prefer the modified Weaver technique for adults, and the modified Phemister technique for patients less than 15 years old.
