The minimun value of the warp tension during knitting a course, a component which does not vary periodically, is measured on a tricot machine, and how the motion of the tension bar will affect on the warp tension and on the numnbet of courses per inch, is discussed.
The minimum tension Tc, a function of the number of courses per inch, is not kept constant during knitting. The tension is proportional to the number of courses per inch when the latter does not exceed a certain value. The variation in Tc changes the pattern of the motion of the tension bar.
Hence the instantaneous value of the tension varies aperiodically during knitting. The magnitude of Tc is about one to four grams for 1 / 1 tricot of 120 d. rayon filament yarn when the number of courses per inch is less Than 70.
