To improve the quality and to increase the ulitization of warp knitted fabrics, we have to inquire their practical performance by studying their physical properties, and to find the best construction for their uses.
For this purpose, we studied through experiments the effects of weaves and density of warp knitted fabrics and of twist of yarn upon their physical properties. In this paper weight per unit area, loop length, contraction of warp, and compressibility of warp knitted fabrics are concerned.
The following results have been obtained.
(1) The value of SI√N=K varies for different weaves, but is constant for the same weave fabric and is in dependent of the density of fabrics, where N is the number of loops par unit area and S is the number of loops per unit length.
(2) The relation between the weight per unit area, loop length, and the density and the weave of warp knitted fabrics are represented by the following formula :
W=√N×10d/9K
=1/α×10d/9K2
in which W = weight per cm, N = number of loops per cm, d =yarn count in denier, a = loop length, k = a constant.
(3) The ratio of warping length to cloth length is approximately represented by the following formula.
I/L=K/100√w/c
which I= cloth length, L = warping length, w = number of wales per cm, c = number of courses per cm, K = a constant.
(4) The thickness and compressibility of warp knitted fabrics are more greatly affected by their weaves than by their density.
