To study the crepe ability of twisted yarns, experiments have been made on the detwisting moment and retractive force developed in twisted yarn when they are wetted, and relations between creping power and detwisting moment as well as retractive force have been looked into. Results :<BR>1) The retractive force increases with an increase in yarn twist, but begins to decrease when yarn twist exceeds a certain limit.<BR>2) The detwisting moment increases rapidly with an increase in yarn twist, and there is no limit to yarn twist as in the case of retractive force.<BR>3) The axial shrinkage of wet yarn increases linearly with an increase in yarn twist, when yarn twist exceeds a certain limit.<BR>4) The creping power of wet twisted yarn can be estimated by the magnitude of detwisting moment, but not by the retractive force.
