To analyze the deformation of twisted yarn, the critical condition to develop the kink has been experimentally studied, with the following results :<BR>1) When the yarn is twisted under constant tension, twist shrinkage increases linearly in proportion to the square of the number of yarn twists, but beyond a certain number of twists, the linear relationship does not hold and a kink occurs.<BR>2) Twisting moment increases rapidly with an increase in the number of twists, but drops abruptly when a kink occurs.<BR>3) Between the critical twist moment M<SUB>k</SUB> when the kink occurs, yarn diameter R and yarn tension W, the following relationship is obtained :<BR>M<SUB>k</SUB>2RW<BR>4) After a kink has occurred, twisting moment does not increase by further twisting.
